A nurse will call you the day before surgery and advise you at what time to arrive at the Day Surgery Center for your procedure. If you are unable to arrive as instructed, please let us know if you are encountering problems. Please make arrangements to be here at the time you are told. Occasionally, we may have a change in our schedule due to unforeseen circumstances. We will contact you if scheduling problems arise. It is important to give us accurate methods of contacting you.
The Day Surgery Center is an ambulatory surgery facility. You will be discharged from the facility generally within 30 minutes to 1 hour after your surgery is completed. You will receive information on your discharge care prior to leaving the facility.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your procedure, or about any of the above instructions, please call the Day Surgery Center at (863) 293-8471 and ask to speak with a “Pre-operative” nurse. If you have a financial or insurance concern, ask to speak with the billing department.
Pre-operation Instructions
Welcome to the Day Surgery Center. We are glad that you have chosen to have your procedure here. The following instructions are provided to promote your safety and prevent any delays in your procedure.

Instructions by Topic
DRESS
- Leave all valuables at home.
- Shower the day of your surgery and brush your teeth but do not apply makeup, fragrance, or hairspray. Remove nail polish if your procedure is on your arm or hand.
- Wear warm, comfortable, loose clothing. Have your family member or friend wear something warm or bring a jacket or sweater, as it tends to be cold in the facility.
- If you wear dentures, do not glue them as they may need to be removed.
- You must remove your contact lens so be sure to bring a case.
- If you wear glasses, bring a case for them.
- If you wear hearing aids, please wear them to your procedure.
MEDICATIONS
You SHOULD take the following medications that you are currently taking on a daily basis the morning of your procedure:
- Heart medications
- Thyroid medications
- Blood pressure medications
- Seizure medications
- Anti-anxiety medications
- Pain medications (if you have chronic pain)
- Medications for heartburn or GERD (gastric reflux)
- Please use your inhaler or nebulizer treatment the morning of the procedure if you have asthma, emphysema or COPD.

You may take your medications with a SMALL SIP of water. Any more than a sip of water may delay your procedure.
BLOOD THINNERS – IMPORTANT INFORMATION
DO NOT TAKE any blood thinners the day of the procedure unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
Your surgeon should tell you if it is necessary to stop taking blood thinners. Most blood thinners should be stopped at least 4-7 days prior to the procedure. You should have permission from the Physician (Primary or Cardiologist) that prescribes your blood thinner to be off of the blood thinner for 4-7 days. Common names for blood thinners are Aspirin, Plavix (clopidrogel), Coumadin (Jantoven, Warfarin), Pradaxa, Effient, Xarelto, Pletal (cilostazol), Persantine {dipyridamo!e}, Trental (pentoxifylline).

DIABETICS
- Check your blood sugar on the morning of the procedure. If it is under 60 or over 200, please call the Day Surgery Center and ask to speak to a nurse.
- Diabetics should take ½ of their normal morning dose of Insulin if the procedure is scheduled prior to 12:00 PM. If the procedure is after 12:00 PM, do not take the morning dose of Insulin.

COLONOSCOPY PATIENTS
Please make sure to do the prep the day before surgery as directed by the Physician’s written instructions.
- You should not eat any solid food the day before surgery, only clear liquids and jello (no red jello).
- Do not drink or eat anything after midnight the day of the procedure.

PATHOLOGY
This surgery center submits specimens to different pathology providers, so please inquire with the facility as to which pathology provider will be used. Some pathology providers may engage specialized pathologists to assist in examining the patient’s specimen.
